Nuit des Musées 2025

in Geneva

Saturday 17 May from 6:00 p.m., we open our doors for Museum Night 2025!
The International museum of the Red Cross and Red Crescent presents a programme for everyone around the theme of tales and legends. Whether you're a prince or princess of any age, an adventurer seeking mythical landscapes, or a treasure hunter, come spend time at the museum with all of humanity!

A musical atmosphere will be set by the Ukrainian choir Kalynovyi Tsvit (The Viburnum Flower), named after the mythical tree of the same origin. Explore the mythical tales of Ukraine, told by people directly affected by the Museum’s messages and accompanied by our guides. For a behind-the-scenes moment at the Museum, join our technician Marco Domingues – he'll take you to places usually off-limits to visitors. Want to leave your mark on the Museum? Take part in the collaborative weaving of a piece by our artist-in-residence, Zahrasadat Hakim. And to explore our collections from a new perspective, don't miss the unique guided tour of the exhibition Tuning In – Acoustique de l'émotion with curator Elisa Rusca.

For the first time, the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Museum is launching an artist residency. This participatory residency, at the intersection of art and humanitarian action, supports emerging artists.

During La Nuit des Musées, the public will have the opportunity to meet the artist and take part in the creation of the artwork on display at the Museum, engaging in conversation and collaboration. Visitors will contribute to the collective creation of a tapestry.

Zahrasadat Hakim is a self-taught artist who works with wood and painting, as well as weaving, ceramics, video and performance. Through her work, she reveals the power of artistic practice as an act of resistance and collective healing.

For this project, the Museum is partnering with the Geneva University of Art and Design (HEAD), the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), the Geneva Red Cross (CRG), and the AHEAD Foundation.

The artist residency is supported by the SKKG Foundation.

The workshop will be held in French, but the artist speaks English.

Fancy a transformation to blend into the magical atmosphere of Museum Night?
Heidi Hopeametsä will be on site to adorn you with stunning face painting, right in the heart of the Museum. The session lasts around 20 minutes.

A journey at the heart of storytelling and imagination.
Three moments during the Night of The Museums, during which storytellers will share in their language of origin legends of their country. Thus, the floor is given to the people concerned by the Museum’s messages.

Discover "Khata", or "The Hut", a living space where traditions and legends intertwine to warm the heart, presented by Alina. Then, let yourself be carried away by "Khotyoroshko", a tale told by Valentyna. "The Rolling Pea" recounts the story of a young boy who sets off on a journey to rescue a girl from his village.

This event is organised in collaboration with the Hospice Général.

What's hidden behind the museum walls?
On the occasion of La Nuit des Musées, embark on a never-before-seen adventure alongside Marco, our technician. Dark recesses and stalactites, discover the secret passages hidden inside our walls!

Tuning In – The Acoustics of Emotion weaves connections between sound, voice, heritage, and humanitarian action.
Which voices do we preserve, and why? Who speaks, and who has the right to be heard? What role does music play in humanitarian work? What kinds of emotional bonds can be carried by the voice? What is the relationship between the act of hearing and the act of being heard? How can we listen to a voice that produces no sound?
Join the exhibition curator for an exclusive guided tour of this temporary exhibition.

Historical sound recordings and audio archives, posters, photographs and prison objects are presented alongside historical artworks and new creations by 10 artists, offering decolonial, feminist and inclusive perspectives.

Founded in 2022, the Ukrainian choir Kalynovyi Tsvit – “Viburnum Flower” (the viburnum being a mythical tree in Ukrainian culture) – brings together amateur and professional singers and musicians around a repertoire of traditional songs.
Each performance is an invitation to discover the soul of the Ukrainian people through its music.

Choir Director: Natalia Nesterenko (Mykolaiv)
Piano and domra: Diana Kuchnirenko (Kryvyi Rih)
Accordion: Fabrice Guibentif (Geneva)
